FAQs
What is the end goal of the challenge?
The main goal of the challenge is to get you Spartan fit and ready to tackle the Spartan Race. At its heart lies a functional training program that incorporates key elements of Stamina, Strength and Skill that keeps the body moving naturally and progressively. This program essentially focuses on 4 key attributes known as the 4 Training Domains that form the structural and functional basis for any Spartan success. The 4 Domains are:
CONDITIONING
Conditioning is more than just running, it is all about building an engine of stamina and resilience,
because you need to be able to run, jump, carry, lift crawl and climb, often in fast succession, for long
periods of time.
EXERCISES: RUNNING, WORK CAPACITY DRILLS, CARRYING, AMRAPS.
STRENGTH
Strength is at the heart of Spartan development, both in mind and in body. It will build the foundation you
need to overcome obstacles and bulletproof your body.
EXERCISES: SQUATS, DEADLIFTS, PUSH-UP.
GRIP
Grip is an all-important and often overlooked quality in any Spartan campaign. It encompasses your ability
to hang on to and hold onto objects and obstacles, both in strength and endurance. Many obstacles
require a strong grip and unwavering hand hold for overall success.
EXERCISES: BAR HANGS, TOWEL HANGS, DEADLIFTS, PLATE PINCH GRIP CARRIES.
CORE STABILITY
Core Stability can be likened to a shield of protection, creating strength and stability between the main
structures of the body. Much like a race car that requires a rigid chassis to handle the road and corners
at top speeds, the body requires connection to support the production of force for various activities, to
remain strong, stable and injury free.
EXERCISES: PLANKS, HANGING KNEE LIFTS, HOLLOW HOLDS.
Do I have to be really fit to do the challenge?
No – in our workouts we provide different exercise options for different skill, strength and fitness levels. For example, if the workout requires you to do a push up, this can be done either on your knees or toes or with a few other variations. The main purpose of the challenge is to see how much improvement you have made in 6 weeks, so it doesn’t matter where you start.
How much does it cost?
The cost of the 5-week challenge is $100 (cost of the race is extra). This includes 2x Team Training class per week of your choice (options here), 5-week Spartan Training Program to supplement your current exercise regime and access to Spartan Training Facebook Group where you will get lots of training tips, nutrition advice and be able to ask any questions you may have, as well as have fun online with your gym buddies. You also get great discounts on our services.
I am going to be away during the challenge. Can I still join?
Yes – talk to us about suitable pricing if you are going to miss any classes or sessions.
Do I have to do the Spartan Sprint Race?
No – you can do the 6-week Spartan Challenge and still get the benefits of learning new skills and exercises, as well as getting stronger and fitter.
What level of fitness do I need to be able to complete the Spartan Sprint Race?
There are people in their 70s running the Sprint. If you exercise at least 3 times a week, you’re more than ready. You will need to be able to walk, jog or run and do a burpee or few. The race consisits of 20 obstacles spaced over 5 km. Some of the obstacles may not be achievable for you this time, but thats ok – you can always attempt an obstacle and/or replace it with burpees.
Are there any reasons why I should NOT do the challenge?
Maybe – if you have certain medical and/or orthopedic conditions. If unsure, please talk to us first.
Will you give me a meal plan?
No – we don’t give meal plans as they are usually too restrictive and unsustainable. Instead we will help you build a set of skills to make your own healthy meals – you will learn to choose which foods are best for you, when to eat those foods, and how much to eat for optimal health, performance and body composition.
Do I have to join the Facebook Group?
No – just please let us know and we will send you all necessary info via txt or email. The Facebook Group will be our main channel of communication and a lot of fun, as we will have some interesting polls, challenges etc., so if you can join us, please do!
